President's Message
Welcome to this Newsletter of the Rotary Club of Botany Randwick Inc. Our club has been serving the local and international community since 1948.
Rotary promotes the ideal of service through fellowship. Attending our meetings allows members to enjoy the fellowship of other club members, enrich their professional and personal knowledge, and meet other business leaders in their community.
As a Club we support a wide range of projects. As well as having a broad range of local and international community projects, we are particularly focused on the Rotary projects, Australian Rotary Health, Rotary Australia World Community Service (RAWCS) and Rotary Oceania Medical Aid for Children (ROMAC) together with The Rotary Foundation.
We welcome everyone to come along to any of our meetings in 2023, to join in the fellowship and to learn more about what we do.
President Elect Simon to develop and share his ideas with members for his year ahead.
And we welcome back Peter Hamer, who has been to the Philippines. He will update us on his recent mission trip.
Our last meeting
Our last meeting on 10 April was a social ten pin bowling night with neighbouring Rotary Clubs.
Starting with fellowship and dinner at the Newmarket Hotel in Gardeners Road, Botany with members from our Club, Marrickville and Campsie attending.
Following dinner all players and their supporters moved to adjacent Manhattan Bowl, at the three most eastly lanes, two competitive games were played.
Marrickville were winners with 642 pins with our Club not far behind with 606. Aria from Marrickville topped scored with 236: Mark (Botany Randwick) second with 224. Brigit (Botany Randwick) with 180 was the top lady for the second year running. Julie did us proud with an overall bottom score of 36, but she was playing for her old Club, Campsie - transferring recently to Botany Randwick.
Over the last ten years of competition, Marrickville has won eight times, Botany two.
This was a fun interclub activity that is worth of being continued, although we will need to consider a pre-match training session as an activity for our club next year!

One of the benefits of being a member is the instant connection any member has with others of similar mind, especially when they are travelling and in strange places. The Rotary badge opens many doors.
Recently member Richard and his wife Julie visited the US, where they were able to meet up, over a drink and meal with two different Rotary Clubs, one in California, the other in Florida. Exchanging Club banners was one of the pleasantries.
