President's Message

The past two weeks have again demonstrated the variety of ways our Club connects with and serves our community.

At our last meeting, it was a pleasure to welcome representatives from JJ Cahill Memorial High School: Ralph David, Principal, Rodolfo (Rudi) Pastore, Careers Advisor, and Eva Korkidas, Big Picture Learning Coordinator. They spoke about the Big Picture Learning program, giving members a better understanding of its approach to creating individual pathways for students. Our growing relationship with JJ Cahill continues to provide opportunities for Rotary to support young people and strengthen our connection with the local school community.

A special congratulations goes to Aunty Barb for her outstanding Welcome to Country at Allianz Stadium. Her address was acclaimed by members of the media and public as one of the best they had heard. Particularly powerful was her central message that, despite our different backgrounds, we are one people, Australian, with the crowd joining together in support of that message.

On the fundraising front, the final figures from our first Bunnings Alexandria BBQ show an anticipated profit of approximately $3,000. This was a fantastic result and will provide additional funds for our Community Service Committee to support worthwhile projects.

A few member movements to mention. Christine is enjoying Japan, while Ryan is in Germany reuniting with his son. We also welcome Richard back from South Korea and Ken back from Singapore.

Looking ahead, our 28 October meeting will welcome a speaker from The Deli Women & Children’s Centre, providing another opportunity to learn about important work being undertaken within our community.

Thank you to everyone who continues to contribute their time, ideas and enthusiasm. It is this involvement that keeps our Club active, connected and making a difference.

Next Meeting Wed 28 October

Our guest speaker this week will be from The Deli Centre, and its very significant role in supporting women and children impacted by domestic and family violence, something that it has been doing for more than 45 years.

We will also hear brief updates from the Chairs of Club Services, Youth, Vocational, Community, International and the Rotary Foundation.  After the formal part of the meeting, we will adjourn downstairs for dinner, a drink and a convivial chat.

Our last meeting 14 October

At our last meeting we had as our special guests Principal Ralph David and teachers Rudi and Eve from JJ Cahill Memorial High School.   They brought us up-to-date with the Big Picture Leaning Program, a relatively new program at  JJ Cahill, which allows students to develope and follow their own learning pathways.

As always a great night, with all enjoying a wonderful meal and chat downstairs after the formal part of the night.

Step Out, Speak Out - 27 November

This year on Friday 27 November 2026 we ask you to join us at High Cross Park in Randwick to march against domestic violence.

The Step Out Speak Out walk raises awareness about domestic violence and asks everyone to stand up and say no to domestic violence. The annual walk is organised by NSW Police Eastern Beaches Local Area Command and Randwick City Council with support from the SES and the Juniors.

November 25 is the International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women, which marks the beginning of 16 Days of Activism, culminating in Human Rights Day on December 10.

To mark the 16 Days of Activism, we ask you to Step Out Speak Out and walk against domestic violence with your family, friends, workmates or teammates.

We had a great turnout at this event last year - see https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VOCSQf7Zxb4&t=77s - and hope to do even better this year!

Rotary Information

Every month is dedicated to one of the major themes of our Rotary lives - October is ECONOMIC and COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT Month!

The Four Way Test

The Four-Way Test is a non-partisan, non-sectarian ethical guide for Rotarians to use for their personal and professional relationships.

Of the things we think, say or do:
  1. Is it the TRUTH?
  2. Is it FAIR to all concerned?
  3. Will it build GOODWILL and BETTER FRIENDSHIPS?
  4. Will it be BENEFICIAL to all concerned?
