President's Message
Welcome to this Newsletter of the Rotary Club of Botany Randwick Inc.  Our club has been serving the local and international community since 1948.  At this very special Dinner Meeting we will celebrate 75 years of service to our community, both local and international.
 
Rotary promotes the ideal of service through fellowship. Attending our meetings allows members to enjoy the fellowship of other club members, enrich their professional and personal knowledge, and meet other business leaders in their community.
 
As a Club we support a wide range of projects. As well as having a broad range of local and international community projects, we are particularly focused on the Rotary projects, Australian Rotary Health, Rotary Australia World Community Service (RAWCS) and Rotary Oceania Medical Aid for Children (ROMAC) together with The Rotary Foundation.
 
We welcome everyone to come along to any of our meetings in 2023, to join in the fellowship and to learn more about what we do.

Next Meeting - 11 October 2023

At this very special meeting members will joined by partners, friends, Rotarians from neighbouring Clubs and guests to celebrate the Club's 75 years of service to the local and wider community.
 
Special Guest will be Immediate Past District Governor Janice Hall who will present a Certificate of Achievement from the President of Rotary International.
 
Members are reminded to pre-pay the dinner cost of $45 to the Club's General Account:

Our last meeting
 
At our last meeting on 27 September, Richard and Christine presented an overview of our current structure, options for the future and the training and development opportunities for members to equip themselves to take on the new roles. 
 
All suggestions will be considered by the Board, with ongoing discussions as required. The revised structure will be formalised at the AGM on November 22nd together with amendments to the Constitution and Bylaws and elections for all positions.
 
All members have been forwarded an information pack on the proposals and are invited to make submissions by 16 October. 
 
A report on the proposed Doggy Day was received from Brigit with the next action to be to formulate a small action group to meet with the RC Maroubra.
 
Phil Wicks then provided a short First Aid presentation.
 
EPIPEN® and EPIPEN JR® Auto-Injectors are used to treat life-threatening, allergic emergencies in people who are at risk of, or have a history of, serious allergic emergencies. EPIPEN and EPIPEN JR are for immediate administration by the individual or a care giver. They do not take the place of emergency medical care. You should seek emergency help right away after using the pens
 
A practical demonstration on ‘how to use’ the EPIPEN was conducted, with Phil getting lucky with a couple of Brazilian dancers who were attending another function at the Graphic Arts Club.

2024 District Conference

Bookings are now open for the District Conference 8 - 10 March 2024.  

The Conference is being held at the Novotel Hotel, Cliff Road, North Wollongong, a wonderful location overlooking North Beach. Watch the Conference Page for progressive updates on the program for the weekend.

There will be speakers covering topical subjects and important Rotary projects.  So come and join us for a weekend of learning and fun.  Catch up with friends and make new ones - meet fellow Rotarians who care about creating a better world.  It's a great opportunity for members new and old to get together and hear more about Rotary and what we do in our district and across the world.
 
District Governor Tonia Barnes has secured five accommodation options to assist Rotarians wishing to attend her Rotary District 9675 Conference from Friday 8 March to Sunday 11 March 2024. But they will not last long and you must book soon if you want to secure one of these hotels.
 
The hotels are the Novotel Northbeach, where the Conference will be held, the Sage Hotel, the Adina Apartment Hotel, Wollongong, Hotel Totto which opened last year, and the Mantra Wollongong.
 
Important to note is the Rotary Room Block unsold rooms release date – this is the date the hotels will take back their rooms, and they will no longer be available to book under this agreement. – see details on Conference Page

Rotary Information 

October is Economic and Community Development Month

Our members promote economic and community development and reduce poverty in underservedimage communities through training, well-paying jobs, and access to financial management institutions. Projects range from providing people with equipment to vocational training. Our members work to strengthen local entrepreneurs and community leaders, particularly women, in impoverished communities.
 
What is your club doing?
Here are some ideas:
 
190 million people are funding their business endeavors through microfinance
  • Partner with a local microlender to improve access to financial services and provide financial infrastructure in the community.
  • Develop mobile banking resources in partnership with a microlender. Cell phones, which can be used to make deposits and transfer funds, can increase access to banking systems in developing communities
  • When supporting service projects in a developing community, purchase goods and supplies locally to stimulate the economy and avoid unnecessary shipping fees
1.4 billion people — nearly half of them employed — live on less than $1.25 a day
  • Expand vocational training opportunities, including job placement programming, at local nonprofit organizations
  • Send a vocational training team to teach business leaders in developing communities how to create a business plan and maintain accurate financial accounting.
  • Partner with a cooperative that provides training, joint economic ventures, and ownership of assets to its members through a democratic structure

The Four-Way Test is a non-partisan, non-sectarian ethical guide for Rotarians to use for their personal and professional relationships.
