President's Message
Welcome to this Newsletter of the Rotary Club of Botany Randwick Inc. Our club has been serving the local and international community since 1948.
Rotary promotes the ideal of service through fellowship. Attending our meetings allows members to enjoy the fellowship of other club members, enrich their professional and personal knowledge, and meet other business leaders in their community.
As a Club we support a wide range of projects. As well as having a broad range of local and international community projects, we are particularly focused on the Rotary projects, Australian Rotary Health, Rotary Australia World Community Service (RAWCS) and Rotary Oceania Medical Aid for Children (ROMAC) together with The Rotary Foundation.
We welcome everyone to come along to any of our meetings to join in the fellowship and to learn more about what we do.
We do hope you can come to celebrate our achievements for the 2025 Rotary Year, cost $60 per person
On the night there will be:-

Our last meeting
A big night !!! The meeting started with the induction of three new members. A very big welcome to Rotary to:
Adam Cutler
Peter Gleeson
Elliott Yancey
It was great to have District Governor Elect, Renga, join us on this special occasion.
Then followed a short and sharp Annual General Meeting to satisfy our obligations as an Incorporated Association. Congratulations to the following on their election for various roles from July 2025:
President: Simon Van Wyk
President 2026/27: Mark Daniels
Immediate Past President: Christine Baramilis
Secretary: Greg Lill
Treasurer: Richard Woodburn
Directors: Mark Daniels, Warwick Nelson, Ken Patteson, and Paul Woodward
New member Peter Gleeson then provided an outline of his project to create an educational resource centre in Uganda. He envisages locating this centre in Ivukula, Bukono County, an area with high levels of poverty and limited access to educational and healthcare resources by providing:
Library Services - Access to books, e-resources, and self-study spaces.
Digital Literacy - Computer literacy and computer application training and internet access.
Healthcare Services - Regular health outreach programs.
Community Hall - A venue for events, meetings, civic education, etc.
Vocational Training - Tailoring, Hairdressing, Catering, ICT, etc.
Peter will be visiting Bukono, in early 2025, to assess the community's needs and resources, an essential first step for our project. This assessment will help identify strengths, weaknesses, and how he can collaborate with the community to meet its needs. His mother, who was born and raised in the area, will play a crucial role in introducing me to the community and helping interpret cultural and social dynamics. He will report back to the Club on his return.

In Australia, Domestic and Family Violence (DV) is disturbingly common. It is one of the drivers of homelessness among women, children and men. Domestic and Family Violence crosses all boundaries, race, age, financial status, education, sex and the suburb you may live in.
Many victims of Domestic and Family Violence will never report their experience. With many incidents unreported, Domestic, and Family Violence may be much worse than we think.
