President's Message
Welcome to this Newsletter of the Rotary Club of Botany Randwick Inc. Our club has been serving the local and international community since 1948.
Rotary promotes the ideal of service through fellowship. Attending our meetings allows members to enjoy the fellowship of other club members, enrich their professional and personal knowledge, and meet other business leaders in their community.
As a Club we support a wide range of projects. As well as having a broad range of local and international community projects, we are particularly focused on the Rotary projects, Australian Rotary Health, Rotary Australia World Community Service (RAWCS) and Rotary Oceania Medical Aid for Children (ROMAC) together with The Rotary Foundation.
We welcome everyone to come along to any of our meetings to join in the fellowship and to learn more about what we do.
Guest speaker at our meeting on 12 June will be our member, Richard Woodburn.
Richard, currently the ROMAC Operations Director, will update us on the activities of ROMAC - Rotary Australia Medical Aid for Children.
ROMAC is a program of Rotary in Australia and New Zealand that provides major surgery for children of the Oceania Region, from Timor Leste across to the islands of the South Pacific, including PNG, the Solomons, Vanuatu and Fiji. This life saving surgery is not available in their own countries.
The Sydney Children's Hospital at Randwick is one of the many hospitals that participate in the Program.
Our last meeting
Guest speaker at our last meeting was our member Peter Hamer, who had just returned from the Philippines.
Peter was a member of a RAWCS (Rotary Australia World Community Services Team) that visited the island of Mindanao to address the issue of unplanned teenage pregnancies.
The team comprised members of a number of Rotary Clubs across District 9675, including Peter's former Club of Burwood.
Peter said that the Philippines has one of the highest rates of teenage pregnancies in the world. This is having a dramatic impact on the lives of the young women of that country, committing them to limited educational opportunities and a lifetime of economic struggle.
Peter and his team linked with local educational and church authorities to deliver the program in about 10 schools over a two-week period, sometimes presenting to 22 classes and 1400 students in a day.
During their visit, they recruited and trained a number of young women to continue the Program, in conjunction with local Rotary Clubs, after their return home.
After Peter's excellent presentation we adjoined to the Club's dining room downstairs for a very enjoyable dinner and a few drinks.

June is Rotary Fellowship Month! This is a fitting designation since fellowship is particularly to the forefront with changeovers being very much the priority in June.
Rotary also has Fellowships in many areas, which are based on a friendly association of people who share a common interest, or more broadly as a group of people meeting to pursue a shared interest or aim.
Rotary Fellowships are designated as autonomous, international groups of Rotarians, Rotarian partners, and Rotaractors who join together to:
Share a common interest in worthwhile recreational activities (sports, hobbies, etc.)
Further their vocational development through acquaintance with others of the same profession
Make new friends around the world
Explore new opportunities for service
Have fun and enhance their Rotary experience
Fellowships are open to Rotarians, family members, program participants, and alumni. New fellowships are added frequently; for the most recent list, see rotary.org/fellowships.

The Four Way Test
The Four-Way Test is a non-partisan, non-sectarian ethical guide for Rotarians to use for their personal and professional relationships.
Of the things we think, say or do:
Is it the TRUTH?
Is it FAIR to all concerned?
Will it build GOODWILL and BETTER FRIENDSHIPS?
Will it be BENEFICIAL to all concerned?
