President's Message
Welcome to this Newsletter of the Rotary Club of Botany Randwick Inc. Our club has been serving the local and international community since 1948.
Rotary promotes the ideal of service through fellowship. Attending our meetings allows members to enjoy the fellowship of other club members, enrich their professional and personal knowledge, and meet other business leaders in their community.
As a Club we support a wide range of projects. As well as having a broad range of local and international community projects, we are particularly focused on the Rotary projects, Australian Rotary Health, Rotary Australia World Community Service (RAWCS) and Rotary Oceania Medical Aid for Children (ROMAC) together with The Rotary Foundation.
We welcome everyone to come along to any of our meetings to join in the fellowship and to learn more about what we do.
Note that there will be no meeting at the Graphic Arts Club this week.
Instead, we will meet for dinner and a fun night of Ten Pin Bowling with members of our neighbouring Rotary Clubs.
Our venue is the Manhattan Superbowl, 549 Gardeners Road, Mascot, adjacent to the Newmarket Hotel (where we will have dinner before the fun and games start!). Parking at the rear, off Tramway Street.
Our last meeting
What an interesting night, busy, but casual!!
We started the night off with some formalities, having a very quick General Meeting to update our By laws to ensure compliance with the requirements of the Office of Fair Trading.
We then had a very interesting talk from Janet Dawson who has recently been to Tonga, where she volunteered to train over 90 local NGO's in grant writing to help them secure vital funding with Australian Aid and other organisations.
Janet had the privilege of working with local NGOs, training them in grant writing—a skill that’s often the difference between securing vital funding or missing out on opportunities that could transform communities. With over 90 participants eager to learn, it was hard work but so incredibly rewarding.
By the end of the program, many had already submitted applications for Australian Aid funding, turning knowledge into action. Seeing their confidence grow throughout the training was the best part!
One of the most unforgettable moments? The certificate ceremony on our last night in Tonga—everyone dressed up, full of excitement, celebrating their achievements. It was a beautiful, exhilarating end to an inspiring month.
We also heard from Kara, visiting from Pittsburg, USA, who has been hosted by Christine over the past few months. Kara is volunteering at Emmanuel College during a break in her studies in Indiana.
Then followed a casual chat over dinner downstairs - a very enjoyable night!

June is designated as “Rotary Fellowships Month” by the RI Board to recognize the importance of international fellowship and good will among Rotarians with similar recreational interests, vocations, and health and medical issue-oriented interests, to promote increased participation in fellowships and increase understanding of this program. The RI Board encourages fellowships groups to highlight activities through projects, activities, and events in celebration of “Rotary Fellowships Month” in June.
“Fellowship is wonderful; it illuminates life’s pathway, spreads good cheer, and is worth high price.”
Rotary Founder, Paul Harris
Rotary Fellowships are international, independently organized groups of Rotarians, Rotarian spouses, and Rotaractors who share a common vocation or recreational interest. Rotary Fellowships give their members the opportunity to have fun, make new friends around the world, and enhance their experience in Rotary.
Many fellowships also use their special interests to serve others. For example, the Fellowship of Canoeing Rotarians has organized clean-ups of polluted rivers; members of the International Computer Users Fellowship of Rotarians conduct training sessions for Rotarians and others in their community; and members of the International Fellowship of Rotarian Scuba Divers join local Rotary clubs to undertake service projects on each of their diving trips.
